Honey Pots

We have a brand new selection of BEE NATURAL honeypots in stock. When the Resourceful Home on Exchange Street sadly closed last year, its owner SUSAN, told us that these sold relly well in her shop. So we contacted them, and before long we discovered that SUSAN was right! They were very popluar for Thanksgiving centerpieces and Christmas gifts. However, when January set in, we thought that people would not be buying them anymore. We were WRONG! People love them year round. We really like working with JAMES, the BEE NATURAL guy in Atlanta. I'll never forget when he told me (in his charming southern accent) that the owner of BEE NATURAL, Creighton, was going to Florida for the week and that "he'd better bring back some bouganvilla because we're running low." The honey pots make wonderful Graduation, Father's Day gifts and 4th of July accents. Brandie and I both have one (so does Liz!) -

If you haven't stopped in to see our new CHILDREN'S AREA, you should do so. It looks great. We want to thank BETSY and her husband (and BUD) for helping to get the area organized. People are really loving it! Some of the great new vendors in the children's area include URCHIN, MILO in MAINE, SPUNKY SPROUT, FESTIVE FISH and of course our old favorites: SOULE MAMA, BLABLA, PINECONE & CHICKADEE and many others.

New Artist

We are happy to welcome Hutch Brown to the Edith & Edna gallery. We had a great opening reception during First Friday Art Walk for Hutch's incredible photography. His show reflects his time spent in South East Asia and is entitled Faces of the Mekong.

Hutch grew up in Maine and worked as a professional photographer and videographer on the rivers in Maine. Throughout the years, his work has taken him to Chile, Canada, and most recently to South East Asia. Hutch spent six months working and taking pictures on the Mekong, which means "Mother Water," in South East Asia. He was there working on the film "Mekong: Exploring the Mother of Waters." There is some great information about that film here. Hutch's photography is a reflection of the many faces of the Mekong and will be on display through the months of May and June. You really do not want to miss his show, so come down and support this local artist.

A little bird told me...

This little bird (along with its many friends) is the creation of Joanna Mendicino. We held a drawing to give away one of these beauties in honor of our anniversary last week. The winner was Leslie Crampi from Boston. We are so grateful for our many local customers but also for the hundreds of out-of-town visitors that stop in and tell us they love our shop!

I have been ruminating on all of the amazing things that we sell and decided to share with you some of the things I have purchased from Edith & Edna for myself or as gifts for others. So, in no particular order: Two Maine Blankets by Nanney Kennedy (one for my mother in law, Edith, and one for my brother Jay and his wife Olga); 2 Burnt Toasts, one for my sister and one for Riley; Many, Many cards, paper relics, Pinecone & chickadee, Noteworthies by Hillary, etc., for all of the milestones in our lives; Hardwear earrings by Jess Esch (I get 1000 compliments a day on them); a BABY SLING by Jen Davis for our new little bundle o'joy; a Pinecone & Chickadee cupcake onsie (also for Phoebe); a Bobbin bag - for my dearest Brandie at Christmas; A social studies button tote and zipper pouch (por moi), a Danny Mansmith bag (my FIRST E&E purchase); two Wendy Stevens barrettes, a blabla pumpkin head (so soft to sleep on!); and several other things which escape me at the moment.

So, I highly recommend shopping here for yourself or your upcoming milestone: Mother's Day, Birthdays, Baby Showers, Weddings, Graduations, Anniversaries - just because. We shop here all the time. This is my favorite Brandie quote "I'm needing this in my life right now!"  See you soon! Julie

Happy Anniversary

We've come a long way since May 2, 2006! This was the carpeting that Ernie and his crew tore up as part of the transformation to our wonderful shop. It's hard to believe that a year ago we had such NERVE to open up a shop with little more than idea. Our customers and artists and friends have made the transformation complete. Thank you to everyone for growing with us through all of our ups and downs. Special thanks to LIZ for hanging in there with us. She is really the rock of our business. Also thanks to our many other employees from the last year: Cathy, Lea, Tori (Good luck in NYC!), Meg, Amy, Jess and Betsy. We could not have survived without you. And finally, thanks to BUD and ROB and the girls. You all have been there for us despite our sometimes frantic disposition. We love you all and we can't wait to see what the second year holds.
